A Study on CO₂ Electrolysis Features Insights from the VIVALDI Project

Last year, our colleague Deepak Pant, Senior Scientist at VITO, was interviewed by a research team from the University of Amsterdam as part of their project on “Sustainable design of multiscale CO₂ electrochemical conversion.” During the discussion, he highlighted key aspects of the VIVALDI project and its role in advancing CO₂ Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies.

The interview has contributed to a paper titled "Governing the development of CO₂ electrolysis: How do we give an emerging technology a chance to contribute to a carbon-neutral Europe?" published in February 2025 on Energy Research and Social Science (Elsevier).

This insightful study explores the innovation processes shaping CO₂ electrolysis in Europe, analyzing both enablers and barriers from a technological innovation systems and political economy perspective. The findings offer valuable policy recommendations for governing emerging climate technologies. We’re proud of VIVALDI's contribution to this conversation!
