From Lab to Pilot: New VIVALDI Paper Summarizes Four Years of Bio-Electrochemical CO₂ Conversion Research
A new open-access review article in "Current Opinion in Chemical Engineering" captures what four years of the VIVALDI project taught us about scaling up bio-electrochemical CO₂ conversion.
Authored by Deepak Pant (VITO), Paniz Izadi, and Falk Harnisch (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research), the paper critically examines how integrated electrochemical and microbial CO₂ conversion technologies are progressing from laboratory research toward pilot and industrial applications.
The review:
- highlights scale-dependent challenges,
- points to the lack of standardised performance metrics, and
- argues that the field is now ready to move beyond proof-of-concept toward larger, system-level demonstrations.
